Outreach Ministries

Appalachia Service Project

Our group just returned from a life-changing trip, July 3 - 9, 2022. Thank you for the continued support of our church family.  Your prayers, time and financial support are vital contributions to the success of this ministry. Without the help of our congregation, we could not make this possible.

ASP Volunteers and Families develop life-long relationships. Everyone who comes into contact with this ministry is transformed.

Thank you for supporting our ASP Mission Trip.

Project WARM

WARM (Wrapping Arms ‘Round Many) is a sheltering program in St. Mary’s County partnered with the Department of Social Services and Three Oaks Shelter. Its purpose is to provide a warm, dry and safe place for men and women to sleep during the cold weather months. Multiple churches around St. Mary’s County take turns hosting 20-25 guests every evening for one week. The season runs through the coldest winter months (November – March).

Mt. Zion has participated in this program since 2009. Our mission is to provide fellowship, shelter, a warm dinner each evening and a warm breakfast each morning.  All we ask of you is to dine with our guests and open the door to conversation. You would not believe the power of a simple hello and warm smile!

Matthew 25:35  “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me"

Hungry Team

The Hungry Team has been in existence for over 28 years. It began as a food pantry. The members were few and the mission simple – “serve the needy in our community.” The Hungry Team works closely with other similar organizations in the area, such as the Project H.O.P.E., Social Services, and Women’s and Men’s Shelters in the Tri-County area.

We operate through donations of cash and non-perishable food items. There is an annual yard sale in September and a silent auction the first weekend in November held in conjunction with our Dinner Theater.

Since it began, the Hungry Team has expanded beyond a food pantry. Our Pantry is open Wednesdays from 11am until 12:30 pm. Non-perishable Food Donations can be brought by Monday-Thursday 10am until 2 pm. Through monetary donations and our annual fundraisers, we are also able to help with fuel oil, electricity and other essentials for people in need. We also direct people to other agencies that can offer assistance.

See the Calendar on the Home page to check the date the pantry is open.

Your help with this mission is a blessing to many people and we thank you for your support.

Christmas in April

Mt. Zion will once again participate in Christmas in April. This year’s date is April 30. 2022.

The goal of Christmas in April is to assist the elderly, low income and disabled homeowners in our community to be warmer, dryer, safer and independent within their own homes.

Mt. Zion has participated as a sponsor for Christmas in April for over 10 years. On this day we join efforts to improve the homes of our neighbors. Volunteers do basic home improvements; painting, weather proofing, ramp building and landscaping. Teens 14 and older are welcome with signed parent permission. (Deadline to sign-up: March 14, 2022)
